Are you a small- or mid-sized farm or food business and looking to expand? Do you need additional equipment, staff time, software or business planning? The Business Builder grant offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture North Central Regional Food Business Center (RFBC) may be able to help.
These grants provide up to $50,000 to support the growth and viability of agricultural producers, growers, processors, aggregators and distributors, including producers who supply local food systems, farmers markets, restaurants and schools. The purpose of the grant funds is to support a more resilient, diverse and competitive food system in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
The North Dakota Rural Electric Cooperatives Foundation is a participant in the North Central RFBC, and staff are available to help determine if your project fits grant requirements. They can also assist with completing or reviewing applications.
The application period runs from March 1 through April 30.
Interested individuals or businesses should obtain a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) number, which is required to apply. A UEI is a 12-digit alphanumeric identifier issued by the federal government via the Sam.gov system and is used for managing and monitoring federal contracts, grants, loans and other agreements. Visit sam.gov/entity-registration to start the UEI process.
