There’s something special about a North Dakota summer – the wide-open skies, scenic byways, welcoming communities and new experiences around every bend. This season, I encourage you to stay closer to home.
Imagine hitting the road without the stress of heavy traffic, long airport lines or crowded destinations. Instead, you’ll find peaceful highways, affordable adventures and the kind of safety and simplicity that let you truly unwind.
Even better: Your North Dakota travels directly support the more than 3,000 businesses across our state that rely on visitor revenue to thrive.
There’s never been a better time to explore. This year marks several milestone anniversaries worth celebrating: the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot turns 25, the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame celebrates 30 years, the United Tribes Technical College Powwow turns 55 and the Medora Musical is marking its 60th season of delighting audiences under the stars.
And that’s just the beginning.
Across the state, new and enhanced attractions are adding even more reasons to pack your bags. Golfers can check out the Fox Hills Golf Course in Watford City or tee off at the newly improved Pheasant Country Golf Course in South Heart. The Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation has expanded its 4 Bears Casino and Lodge in New Town, offering even more entertainment and hospitality overlooking the rugged beauty of Lake Sakakawea. Water lovers will enjoy the new Shores Event Center at Woodland Resort on Devils Lake and the cozy Good Bear Bay Lodge at Indian Hills Resort on Lake Sakakawea.
For those seeking something unexpected, don't miss the newly constructed knight and dragon sculptures near Regent’s Enchanted Castle, or lace up your boots for the expanded point-to-point trail in Medora. The UP District Festival Field in West Fargo offers events for the whole family, and big things are coming with Pembina Gorge State Park set to open in late 2025.
Through our new “Hello” campaign, we’re inviting travelers from around the country to discover the warmth and wonder of North Dakota. But that same invitation extends to you – our residents and North Dakota Living readers – who may not have explored every corner of our beautiful state.
There’s no better time than today to start planning your North Dakota road trip. For ideas and inspiration, visit NDTourism.com and search “trip ideas.”
Safe travels!
