Learn how to make maple syrup at Fort Stevenson State Park Saturday, April 8, during Maple Sugaring Day.

Located 3 miles south of Garrison, along the north shore of Lake Sakakawea, Fort Stevenson State Park will hold the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

State park staff will demonstrate how to tap a tree, collect sap and turn it into delicious maple syrup. Hear about the history of maple syrup and the equipment used. Maple talks take place at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

Other activities are planned throughout the day, too. The morning will start with a pancake and sausage breakfast starting at 10 a.m. The Mooncats will perform at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and hop aboard a horse-drawn wagon for rides anytime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Kids activities and a patch program will be held throughout the day. Visitors of any age can earn a Maple Sugaring Day patch by completing a worksheet on the day’s activities.

Sugar snow will be made onsite for purchase, and local youth groups will be selling maple cotton candy and maple popcorn. Other concessions with maple products are also available.
