When Trautman completed her bachelor’s degree in art education and psychology from Valley City State University (VCSU) in 2017 and searched for her first teaching job, Class B rural North Dakota called. She found what she was looking for in Carrington. In 2017-18, Trautman completed her first year of teaching, handling art classes in the Carrington School District.
Carl Ben Eielson was born in Hatton, and lived from 1897 to 1929. The Eielson family was large, and their father was a successful merchant. Carl Ben stepped aside from his studies at the University of North Dakota to join the U.S. Army as World War I unfolded. He learned to fly in 1917, as part of his U.S. Army Air Service enlistment, and got further pilot training in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
PRFC is a grocery store in the Red River Valley that is a one-stop shop for featuring natural, organic and local food. As a co-op, it is owned by members, and governed by a board of directors elected from the membership.
Kirsch says PRFC has a strong dedication to local foods growers and producers, and to showcasing their wares.
Hettinger native Jean Nudell is beginning her third year as PTRM administrator. She completed a master’s degree in library and information science from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
“We collect, preserve and display the history of our area. We consider our regional area to be within 100 miles of Bowman,” Nudell says.
“We want North Dakota vegetables on every plate in the state, and we’d like them to drink our local wines, too,” says Hero Barth, Bismarck. Barth is president of the NDFMGA board of directors. He and his family own and operate Farm Fresh Gardens, five miles east of Bismarck, which is served by Capital Electric Cooperative.
The additional emphasis on local wines at NDFMGA annual meeting was intentional, as the North Dakota Grape and Wine Association (NDGWA) chose to hold its annual meeting to coincide and co-locate with the NDFMGA meeting.
