A lifelong gardener, Don Kinzler was born and raised in Lisbon. After graduating with a horticulture degree from North Dakota State University (NDSU), he worked for the university’s horticulture department before operating a garden center in Fargo for 25 years with his wife, Mary. Don is now the NDSU Extension Horticulturist for Cass County, writes weekly gardening columns for Forum Communications and is host of WDAY’s Lawn and Garden Radio, heard Thursday afternoons through the gardening season. Don Kinzler, a lifelong gardener and NDSU Extension Horticulturist for Cass County, answered some of our burning landscape questions.

And while some landscaping projects may improve your home’s curb appeal to others, “it’s important that we enjoy them as well,” he says. “Locate a bench among the landscape plantings, and make it a priority to sit frequently, reflecting on the beauty of our surroundings.”
